Does Social Media Work?

does social media workWe are all told we need to have a facebook account or we need to be twitter friendly, we just have to develop a YouTube channel, but in reality does social media work in terms of being a necessity for the modern day marketer? I think it does and here are a few reasons why.

Does Social Media Work For Traffic Generation

When asking the question does social media work we are asking if this method works for driving targeted visitors to our websites or money making programs or blogs, whatever it may be. We may simply want to provide information surrounding an idea and this becomes a very effective way to do that. I mean let’s get real here, how would you manage five thousand “friends” on an intimate level in the first place? You may be able to set up systems to be able to effectively communicate and share ideas, but socialize…I don’t really think so.

With that said, does social media work in terms of developing relationships and, once again, I think that it does. We are able to establish pages with our videos, we are able to provide “snippets” of our thoughts as we move through the day. Utilizing these social sites and channels we are able to share ourselves with others and these folks are able to connect with us, to relate to what we are saying.

Does Social Media Work For Disbursing Information Effectively

I can post a “status” message saying something about how to drive traffic to a blog or a website and put a link to one of my blog posts or articles. There may be someone out there that connects with this information because it may be something they have been searching for, something they need. If you write an informative and accurate post about traffic generation and this individual is able to profit as a result of implementing the information you have provided then you may have a long-term subscriber, reader and even promoter of your blog.

This is a simple example, but it illustrates one way in which social media can help. Does social media work? Of course it does. We are always talking about building a list, the money is in the list, so on and so forth, but most people new to the internet do not have a list, so how can they market effectively?

The answer obviously lies in learning how to exploit social media and other sites in order to access lists that already exist. There are hundreds of millions of people on facebook with their profiles that provide you with a lot of information. Many people fill out a profile and tell you exactly what it is that they are looking for, what they are involved with and maybe even what they wish to learn more about. There are groups with titles like Internet Marketing, Make Money Online or Succeed in MLM. Most of these groups collect members that are looking for information to help them succeed within these and other markets.

By joining groups on facebook and posting to these groups you set yourself out to be a leader, to be an expert in the field. You want to create the perspective at the very least that you are someone that many of these folks can come to for the answers. Sure, you may still be learning, but you can do research, you can write and you can set up a blog post to send people to.

Within groups on facebook you can post links to programs that you are working, products or services that may help some of these folks with their own marketing efforts. In the end, you can drive thousands of people to your site simply by posting information – unique, original and useful information – within these groups.

This article is not going to be a definitive answer to or explanation to how utilize social media. Rather this article simply answers a question that many ask, “Does social media work?” There are many different ways to exploit social media for our own purposes whether they are commercially driven or for more philanthropic endeavors and this post is simply a call to you to start looking for additional resources and specifics on how to utilize and implement the techniques and strategies that social media marketers use. If  I were to list everything out there available to you I could probably write a book, a large book, but as fast as the internet moves I would have to revise the finished product almost every time I completed it.

Does Social Media Work? Yes

Ultimately, finding the information that you need to harness the leverage and compounding effects of the internet will lead you to the social networks and the strategies and methods marketers employ to make use of these systems for your own purposes. The only thing I can really say is get out there, sign up and start posting, don’t sit around asking does social media work because it does, you’ve probably arrived here as a result of, in one way or another, social media marketing.

Calling a Thief a Thief: Plagiarism Sucks!

article thiefPlagiarism sucks, but when it happens to you it sucks even more, so today I’m going to go on one of my rants about calling people out for stealing your work. Sort of understand what these music and hollywood guys and gals are talking about, but until someone starts stealing your own work it doesn’t really hit home.

Look guys, I always talk a lot about taking someone’s work to use as inspiration. I also have advocated taking an article and totally re-writing it with your own vocabulary in your own style. It’s not really a great method to condone, but it can get a lot of people started in the article marketing world, so I would just rather see people use an article to get them going, even one of my own, than sit around and complain about how you can’t write very well.

I’ve even told folks they can take an article, even one of mine again, and post it on their blog or site AS LONG AS THE LINKS BACK TO MY SITE STAY IN TACT.

On the other hand…taking an article and being so freaking lazy you don’t even change a single word in it (with the exception of the author) and calling it your own is one of the laziest, pathetic and lowest things you can do and here’s why.

One of the things that you are trying to do here online is create trust between yourself and those that are thinking of and actually are following you, whether it’s on your blog, on a social site like facebook or twitter, a forum or anywhere else. Creating trust, establishing credibility come at a price…usually it’s called work, ethics and character.

Now I know that there are times when the well runs a little dry, I understand, but that doesn’t mean you start stealing things and this includes articles. You see as an online marketer, one that specializes in writing articles and blog posts, the articles and posts are the main “products” that I create online. There are other things as well, videos, pdf files and power point presentations, but 75% of my strategy comes from writing small articles and although I can crank out quite a bit of it, it doesn’t make it easy. Marketing online is work and the body of work that we create here is what gets us to the next level or to where we want to be (hopefully!).

Don’t steal. You’d think that you would know that after the ripe old age of five or so, but for some it seems to take a little bit longer. Plagiarism sucks, but it sucks more when it’s you that has been ripped off. I didn’t realize that until I went to a blog while I was conducting research. Found a really cool article on this forum, at least I thought it was, but realized why I thought so highly of it. The article I found on this site was mine. Hmm, cool.

Listen, just don’t do it. At the bottom of this blog, on every single page, is a copyright logo, you need to take heed of that because simply taking an article and posting it somewhere else is against the law here just like it would be in the “real” world.

If you need help, give me a call…that’s all you have to do. I will speak with most people, I’m a fairly easy guy to work with, but don’t steal my shit. It’s irritates the hell out of me and I start having my “Dexter” moments…and just who knows when I’ll snap!

The Online Marketing Secrets That Work

online marketing secrets

I find it interesting that there are so many folks out there with the perception that if they just understood certain online marketing secrets they could make some money, that if just one guru would actually reveal his or her methodology that you could crack the “secret code” out there and the money would just roll in. Of course, this is simply a perception and not a reality.

Online Marketing Secrets: The Reality

The truth is a little different. For one, most gurus and heavy hitters actually do reveal their online marketing secrets. What? Yep, most people do reveal their so-called secrets to anyone that is willing to listen or read about them. You can go to just about any successful marketer out there and they will reveal many of their techniques and strategies in eBooks, boot camps and other courses that they give away for free.

Free you say? Well, sort of. You see most online marketers know that they need to have a pretty good list to start making some significant money. If you’ve been around at all you have probably heard the term, “The money is in the list.” You providing your name and email address for a well written eBook is an exchange. You are getting valuable information that you need and a marketing professional is getting another name on his list. While some folks will tell you that what you really need to do is develop relationships with people and help them succeed, I would argue that you just need to create some quality information that people will provide their name, email address and maybe even a phone number to get. Yep, build that list, that IS where the money will be one day.

Online Marketing Secrets and Statistics

It’s that simple? Yeah, pretty much. You see, as a marketer I am always concerned with numbers, statistics and testing parameters. I want to know how many people are visiting my site as a result of an article I have written or a video I have posted. I want to know which facebook group brought out the most visitors and whether or not it is important for me to post a status update every hour, every 2 hours or once a day, etc. I do this because ultimately I know if I drive “x” number of people to my site that I can entice “y” amount of folks from that group to sign up to a capture page for information concerning a program or information. (Notice I’m not even worried about selling anything just yet.)

Internet marketing, at this stage, is a science. As stated above we crunch numbers and all kinds of data. We want to know what EXACTLY works and what doesn’t. I know that when I start a campaign up I want to know where traffic is coming from and when I find what is working the best I focus most of my attention on that method. I then will match that method with some other form of marketing I have developed until I find something that may work a little better. Then I add this technique and start looking for and developing other techniques to match against this method until I find something that works even better. It’s always about improving. Over time these little changes and “upgrades” pay off in more and more targeted traffic.

Online Marketing Secrets and Your Programs

Once I have a decent amount of traffic I may slowly start releasing information surrounding a new program or tool that I have found to work. I may write a “review” article around a program or company that people are searching out when they perform their due diligence. All the while I am doing what I can do to learn more and broaden my brand as the guy that understands online marketing so some folks that are looking for information on these other businesses will come by and check my site out, my programs out and eventually

In terms of finding any new online marketing secrets, I’m just not sure I subscribe to that idea at all. Like I said before, there are tons of programs and courses out there that people give away and I am a big believer in getting all of the information that you possibly can on marketing. Even bad courses serve a purpose in as much as they can show you what NOT to do. I’m just not sure that these things qualify as online marketing secrets or rather just the use of common sense.

Online Marketing Secrets Aren’t Really Secrets

I receive quite a few calls daily from leads and prospects wanting to know the best way to do this or the best way to do that and quite honestly it really doesn’t matter. Probably one of the keys to marketing, one of those key online marketing secrets (wink, wink), is to get out there and do something…anything! So many people spend so much time planning that they fail to act and that’s usually the biggest problem of all.

Look, you can go out there trying to find a bunch of online marketing secrets or you can get a WordPress blog and start posting articles. It’s up to you, but I can tell you right now that the only online marketing secrets that you ever need to know are to work hard, be consistent and don’t quit, other than that all the rest is just hype and non-sense. There are no online marketing secrets and over the next few blog posts I’m going to show you exactly what you need to do to start marketing your blog the best way I know, so make sure you stay tuned!
